Garry Trudeau once said that "commencement speeches were invented largely in the belief that outgoing college students should never be released into the world until they have been properly sedated." The speeches and quotes on GRADUATION WISDOM are the exception to this rule.

• my name is Cristina Negrut. I am hoping to learn something from these speeches and hopefully pass it on to my children: Andy and Peter. I was born in Romania and came to the United States more than ten years ago after studying in the UK and Hungary. I went to graduate school at University of Iowa (Economics) and at University of Michigan (Human Computer Interaction). I currently work full time as a usability specialist and interaction designer in Madison, WI.
  

WHAT IS THE GRADUATION WISDOM?

• a collection of inspirational quotes from college graduation speeches.
• little gems found buried on the web (some were discovered at the 85th page of a search engine's results meaning that unless you were very lucky you wouldn't have run across them which is a pity since they have such great advice).
• meant to help boost your confidence, inspire, motivate, uplift the spirits, empower, etc.
• notes and positive statements that you can read, repeat and reinforce in order to eventually replace the bad, negative thoughts.
• the commencement address you never had or you wish you had.

WHAT IT IS NOT

• a comprehensive list of commencement speeches; because so many of them are dull.
• a place to find graduation speeches by famous people ; turns out that most of them give boring or predictable "change the world" type of talks.
• a place to find speeches given at top colleges since they invite famous people (see above).

ICONS

• icons placed next to a speaker's name are there solely for the purpose of enlivening the site design and to satisfy my addiction to graphics.
• they signal a new entry in the collection of commencement addresses and are not implying anything about the speaker .
• most of the icons come from these sites: Icon Buffet, Leo's Icon Archive and Cool Archive. 

COPYRIGHT

• throughout the site, proper credit is given to all authors.
• the copyright attributed to the GRADUATION WISDOM refers to the value added of collecting commencement addresses that have inspirational advice, creating the meta-tags associated with each entry and selecting the quotations and excerpts out of each speech.
• the visual motivational diagrams and handouts are free to distribute for non commercial purposes as long as you indicate the source.
